Course Objectives


Objective of the course is for participants prepare themselves for work activities, static guard roles, handle telephone calls, lost and found items, patrolling of premises, make relevant reports and handing over duties within the time given with the aid of the materials, tools & equipment given. Furthermore, the course aims to equip the security officers with essential knowledge & skills to operate basic security equipment’s such as access control, alarm monitoring system and closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitoring equipment.

The course consists of 7 learning units:

•  LU1: Prepare for Duty
•  LU2: Access Control at Building Premises
•  LU3: Static Duty at Guardhouse
•  LU4: Handle Telephone Calls
•  LU5: Patrol the Building Premises
•  LU6: Intrusion Alarm Duty
•  LU7: Write Reports and Handover Duty

Learners need to attain at least  75% attendance and pass the course to obtain the Statement of Attainment (SOA)

Minimum Entry Requirements


  • Job roles & occupations:

    Existing officers and aspiring security officers.

  • Assumed attitudes, skills, knowledge:

    Basic understanding of the organisation’s core values, service offering and SOP’s, sense of duty responsibility and discipline on the job.

  • Physical & Medical requirements:
    Able-bodied to work as a security officer and not colour blind or hearing impaired.

  • Age and work experience:
    Between 18 years old and above with basic orientation towards providing security services, able to apply basic workplace safety and health.

  • Education:
    Minimal primary school education

Individuals who do not meet the entry requirements will be subjected to interview before acceptance into the course.
